Chambray Romper

Denim and turquoise are the quintessential Western accessories. As Arizonans, we are lucky to have so much access to authentic Native American turquoise in many regions throughout the state. Which is how I have come to collect several pieces within the span of 24 years. My brother-in-law is Navajo, and one of my rings was actually made by his grandfather. It has an intricate floral and leaf design in the sterling silver and the turquoise takes on a unique shade of teal. My tiny turquoise earrings were a gift from my own grandpa after his trip to Sedona, and the other dark blue turquoise ring is from a visit in Greer. My turquoise jewelry are my treasures, each of them tells a story, contains a memory and a holds feeling. All of them tie me to my native state, and give me pride when I put them on.

You know what else I treasure? This unbelievably comfortable chambray romper. It’s so soft and light-weight, which is a relief because these rising temperatures wouldn’t comply with anything heavier. I love the rope drawstring waist too because I will never object to any form of waist cinching since I wasn’t blessed with the longest of torsos and I’m not 5’10”. So I’ll take any chance I can get to accentuate it, otherwise I’m drowning in yards of fabric. Speaking of waist cinchers, have any of you tried those waist trainers? I am tempted to try them but then I hear the horror stories of how it can cause your organs to shift with potentially dangerous consequences. Yeah, I think I’ll stick to my belts and drawstrings for now.

Foiled Prints & Favorite Clutches

Isn’t it fabulous to have talented friends? My friend, Rea Rowles, custom-made these darling gold-foiled prints for me and I can’t wait to hang them up. I already have a place for them in my pretend home-office which will be decorated girly and glamorous and there’s nothing my manly husband can do about it. She has a variety of prints to choose from in her Etsy shop, like this one of the Arizona temple, and can foil them in gold, rose gold or mint green and cut them to fit your frame too! I wanted a cacti print foiled in rose gold, and she came up with the print above and it turned out exactly how I wanted! And of course I wanted something mermaid-y, so she found this majestic design and foiled it gold and it’s absolutely perfect! She’s essentially a magical artist who can make your wildest creative dreams come true. Check out her shop, RARDesign, or text/call her at 480-208-2044, to get your own foiled prints and tell her Justine from The Desert Mermaids sent you.

Speaking of mermaids, I saw this seashell coin purse from Skinnydip while browsing Nordstrom, and my inner mermaid squealed with glee. Then I saw Marina Diamandis (whose name is the coolest I’ve encountered on planet Earth) from Marina & the Diamonds had it on in her Instagram and I clicked as quickly as my fingers could go to get this baby in my shopping cart. Good thing because it sold out immediately after just about everywhere! But I did find this one at ASOS, which is equally as adorable and a cross body! And how cute is this iPhone case from the same brand?

So I’ve given up Diet Coke, and no it’s not for Lent. I’m trying to cut out all soda from my diet for the umpteenth time. I figured it’s probably not normal to know what my stomach will look like four months with child, but thanks to bloating caused by carbonation, I do. I chalked it up as my body’s way of telling me it’s time to say sayonara to the can of diabetes. But why must things taste so good when they are so bad? In order to ween me off the caffeine withdrawals, I’m just going to buy all of the Diet Coke/Coca Cola memorabilia I can. Just because I can’t drink it, doesn’t mean I can’t wear it, right? This Diet Coke clutch is an exact replica of the real deal, minus the guilt, and I’m lovin’ it. Oh, and the saying, “All that glitters is gold,” rings true with this clutch from Natasha Couture. My love for glitter is like Peter Pan, and I shall never grow out it, ever.

Rainbow Perfection + Beach Necessities

This is the last batch of California photos for me. Krystal braided my hair for these photos we took on Laguna Beach, she’s a braiding wizard I tell you! This is hands down my favorite hairstyle for a beach or pool day, just make sure to protect your part with sunscreen! I used Hawaiian Tropic, a brand I’ve been keen on for a while now, especially this one with the shimmer effect! It makes your skin look flawless and sparkly in the sun, kind of like a vampire from Twilight, but better. But NOTHING smells more like summer to me than Banana Boat tanning oil with its coconut, banana and carrot extract! I’ve been buying this stuff for years, and I’m convinced nothing can complete at that price point. I dig a good rainbow bikini, and this one by Bikini Lab was a saucy mix between candy striper and ’70s roller disco babe! I love the flutter detail and the bow cut-out on the back, the devil is in the details folks.

Nothing is quite as relaxing as listening to the waves rolling in on the shore, but when you’re at a crowded beach, you need some help drowning out the conversations around you. Cue the headphones, another beach necessity! Have you guys heard of Frends? I’ve been seeing this brand everywhere, and it’s no wonder why! They produce quality sound AND look cool with the simple and sleek designs. I’m sort of obsessing over these, plus they come complete with a pair of BaubleBar earrings! However, in keeping with the technicolor theme here, these oil slicked babies also hold a place in my heart. I hope you enjoyed my beach attire and thanks for reading! 🙂

How gorgeous is the blue on this bikini set? And the crochet? So fun! I love bikinis that are little more intricate and fancy, it makes them perfect for lounging on a beach chair rather than swimming. But I’m kind of weirded out that July is half-way over already! Where did this summer go? Oh I know, Hawaii, Mexico, and my brother’s wedding! Yes, my little brother got hitched last week, and all the festivities that surrounding that was time-consuming but in the best way possible! There isn’t anything better than spending quality time with family especially when it’s pertaining to such a happy event, like love! I’m so happy for him, and I absolutely adore his new wife, Ashley! She is a such gem and the perfect match for him and our family too! My husband’s schedule has been absolutely nuts. He’s been working full-time on top of taking five classes and I’ve been applying and interviewing for jobs. Needless to say, we don’t get to spend as much time together as I would like, so we might be going to Mexico in a couple of weeks once my husband is finished with summer school! I hope it works out, Rocky Point is one of my favorite places and I’m craving some authentic Mexican food!

This look is chill, laid-back, funky and bright! Those are the three key things I try to incorporate into my suitcase when packing for a beach vacation. I know I already did a post with this sweater in another color here, but the looks are polar opposites. One is a dark, moody grunge while this one is technicolor and preppy. I love playing with my look, and sometimes just switching up the color palette alone is enough. I’m not suggesting you go all out goth one day and then be decked out in plaid and pigtails the next. People may start to think you’re suffering from an identity crisis, but hey, whatever floats your boat! Sorry for party rockin’ in these blurry photos, but I was feelin’ the vibe of this outfit and bustin’ out some rad ’80s moves. Oh, and here’s a throwback to October 2011, when Todd and I dressed as Barbie and Ken for Halloween! He really is the Ken to my Barbie.
