I still remember the very first time I learned about the musical and arts festival. It was six years ago (which was 2009 for those of you that are mathematically challenged) and during my senior year of high school. An acquaintance of mine and her friend started talking excitedly about this mysterious place that I had never heard of before. They described the location of this event that occurred in Indio Valley as, “Coachella.” Considering the year, the fact that I never heard the term before, and because they started rambling on about the incredible fashion there, I summed it up to basically a swap meet of hippies hawking designer Coach handbags in the middle of the desert on the way to California from Arizona. I blame them for their lackadaisical description, not my wandering mind taking off into a sea of beige and brown Coach purses which I couldn’t afford.
Flash forward a few years later and I started seeing the word, “Coachella” splashed across trashy magazines at the check-out line featuring the rich and famous wearing bohemian-chic attire. I immediately felt sheepish for writing it off as a nondescript Coach outlet and started paying more attention to the fashion it was inspiring. Crop tops! Floral print! Over-sized sunglasses! Distressed high-waist shorts! Fringe! Crochet! And the flower crowns, oh how the flower crowns where everywhere and on everyone. Soon, it was acceptable to wear this flower-child garb in every-day life. Yes, even the flower-crowns were dubbed worthy of grocery shopping. However, now that I am aware of the greatness that composes Coachella, (innumerable celebrity spottings anyone?) I now must attend this Coachella. But alas, tickets are too expensive and I’m a newly married college student.
But I can still pretend, imagination is free after all. So, if I were at Coachella right now, which I’m not, this is what I would be wearing. What would you be wearing, or what did you wear/are you wearing if you’re in attendance right now? Tell me, I won’t be insurmountably jealous. Promise.

I have been wanting a messenger bag for such a long time and this one by Calvin Mitchell was exactly what I had been searching for. I love that it has so many different compartments for all of your things! It has credit card slots, pen holders, a cell phone holder and an eyeglass holder! If you’re anything like me, your bag starts to resemble that of Mary Poppins after a while. It’s the worst when you’re fumbling around in a black hole trying to find your keys, wallet, phone, lipstick, snacks, etc., so this was the perfect anecdote! I really love the cognac color too, because it can go with anything! They also have other handbags, travel bags and even briefcases. I’m really digging this cross body woven purse!
I paired this duster cardigan with an all white ensemble and plenty of rose gold accessories. I don’t normally shop at Forever 21 because I find the quality to be sub-par. But they have been steppin’ up their game lately! I have found myself wandering inside their store or online more frequently. I spotted these rose gold loafers and about died from over-stimulation of cuteness. Unfortunately, I couldn’t find them online, but I’ll keep trying because everyone needs them!

I am really obsessing over fringe, so when I spotted this purse I knew I had to have it! It suprisingly fits so much stuff in it and I love bags that can fit all my goodies. This is for sure a statement bag, which is an element that I adore. Calvin Mitchell has so many amazing leather bags and duffle bags! I already have my eye on this one and this one.

This is my last batch of pictures from Mexico! It’s bittersweet. Bitter because I don’t get to reminisce on this glorious beach vacation. And sweet because I still get to talk about this gorgeous white crochet jumpsuit from BECCA by Rebecca Virtue! I’m a sucker for all things crochet! I just love the vintage 60s/70s vibe it gives off, especially in white! I paired it with a colorful bikini set from Bikini Lab (sold out unfortunately), white DV by Dolce Vita sandals my mermaid Ray-Bans!
Braids at the beach are pretty much essential for my long, wavy hair. I NEVER bring any heated tools when I’m on vacation! My locks get curlier in humidity, so there’s no point in trying to tame it and force it to be a certain style. This is the time to let my natural waves take center stage and experiment with braids and top knots. Why spend hours curling/straitening/blow drying and DAMAGING your hair, when an hour later it falls flat and turns frizzy? Plus, it takes less time to throw it up in bun or a few braids, which means more time frolicking in the ocean and soaking up the sun! 🙂

Happy Hump Day! Here’s another look from my Spring Break in Mexico! It’s taking me a while to get through these photos, sorry about that! I’ve been so caught up in school, preparing for graduation and my internship that I haven’t had much time for anything extra lately! Which, unfortunately, includes my favorite thing, this blog! But don’t worry, I only have one more outfit post from Mexico left! Although, I’ve sort of loved going through them painfully slowly because then I can re-live those memories that seem oh so long ago! (sadly only three weeks ago) Time flies! Side note: I just picked up my tassel and chords for graduation today… Surreal! I don’t think it has quite hit me that I am going to be done with school forever yet. And it’s no wonder I feel that way because I’ve been going to school consecutively for 20 years!
I’m digging the jogger with sneakers look right now! It’s uber casual but still put together, and these ones from Fevrie are obsessable. Yes, I know that’s not a word. And yes, I did just make it up! Impressive, I know. I’m just full of surprises, that’s why you should stick around. You never know what I’m going to come up with next! By the way, I just thought I should officially announce it here that this is going to be my last post because I no longer want to be a part of The Desert Mermaids. To be honest, I actually despise writing and fashion.
APRIL FOOLS!!!! 😉
