I wore this outfit on a date night out to dinner and a movie with my husband, and as I was walking to my theatre, this man and woman sitting down on a bench waiting for their movie stopped me and said, “Excuse me, but we saw you walking by and are in love with your outfit! Are you a model? Where are you from? New York? Miami? Los Angeles?” I was flattered of course and said thank you but had to laugh when I answered, “No, I’m from Arizona, born and raised!” They looked at each other, and exchanged a puzzled glance, as if in disbelief. “Okay, there is no way that you came up with that outfit idea in Arizona,” the woman started. I laughed again and told them I have a fashion blog and read other fashion blogs for inspiration. They simultaneously said, “Ahhh,” and nodded in understanding.
That experience got me thinking. I know my style is different and a little out there sometimes, but apparently I look out like a fish (mermaid!) out of water here in Arizona. I always thought Arizonans were up on all the trends, and weren’t far behind big fashion meccas like LA and NY, but apparently I’m mistaken! Is there a stigma for the way people dress in your city/town?
P.S. Did you see my Instagram post with my adorable yorkie pup, Lola? She stole the show! Add me on Snapchat to see more of her, and random snaps of me jamming out in my car… (username: jpsearle)
