I am currently crashing from the high of the Katy Perry concert last night. I was seriously on Cloud 9 the whole entire night. Let me just say, I have been in love with Katy since the first time I heard her song play on the radio. I knew the instant I heard her that she wasn’t going to be just a one-hit wonder, she was going to get big and fast! I saw her at Phooson in December 2008 and then two months later for her “Hello Katy” tour at the Marquee in February 2009. Tickets to Phooson were free and tickets at the Marquee were around $40. Crazy right? I didn’t go to her “California Dreams” tour in 2011 because I couldn’t get anyone to go with me and I didn’t want to spend $200+ for tickets. But I totally regret that and should have forced my husband to go with me! I went with Krystal to her “Prismatic World Tour” and we had so much fun! She put on such a good show and had so many different outfit changes and both of her opening acts, Ferras and Tegan and Sara, were amazing! Go check out our Instagram, @thedesertmermaids, for pictures from the night!

So remember how in this post I said I wasn’t really sure about my “Sweet Experience” MAC lipstick? Well consider my mind changed. For some reason I just wasn’t digging the way it looked on me. It clashed with my skin tone and made my lips look dry and was too sheer. But for some reason when I put it on with this post… it just worked! Maybe because I had a primer on underneath and I had on a different colored lipstick earlier that day? I’m not really sure but my opinion is a complete 180 from what it was before! It’s so weird how that happens but I’m glad the girls at the MAC counter convinced me not to return it because it was a limited edition and is now sold out everywhere!

This hat totally makes me feel like Jessica Simpson. You know how they say if you have blonde hair you shouldn’t wear a cream/beige/camel colored hat? Well, I disagree! I think it looks gorgeous together. Yes, darker colors do pop better against lighter colors… but that doesn’t mean if you’re a blonde you can’t sport a beige hat! If it’s good enough for Jessica Simpson it’s good enough for me.

I am totally loving my hair right now. It’s so funny because people ask me, “Is your hair blue?” or “Is your hair grey?” I even was told I had unicorn hair which I’m pretty happy about. Basically it was purple, blue, grey, and platinum blonde somehow and I loved it! Now that the toner has washed out  it isn’t as purple/blue/gray anymore. It’s more of a platinum blonde! My hair has a mind of it’s own apparently! I have to give a shout out to my sister and stylist, Jessica, for working her magic on it!

Brighten It Up

Blazer: Truth and Pride (similar) |Blouse: Myne (similar) | Jeans: Joes (similar & on sale) | Shoes: Kurt Greiger (similar) | Sunglasses: Ray Ban | Earrings: Baublebar  (similar) | Ring: Marcia Moran (similar) | Lipstick: MAC ‘Myth‘ & Lipliner: MAC ‘Whirl

Bright blazers are where it’s at. I own just about every color of the rainbow because I adore them so much! How is it possible the color of an article of clothing can boost your mood so drastically? Or am I the only one that feels that way? I also love the look of a structured blazer with some distressed jeans. The edginess of the denim counteracts the blazer and softens the look from formal to casual.

One of my absolute favorite brands for sunglasses are Ray Ban. I love the fit, colors and durability. Seriously. You could drop them 100x and they still won’t break. Trust me, I would know from previous experiences. I can’t say the same for my iPhone however. (May she rest in peace.) I have multiple styles of these sunnies, they never let me down!

You know what else you won’t be disappointed in? MAC ‘Myth’ Lipstick! This is the most versatile color. You can wear it alone or mix it with other lipsticks to make the your own unique shade! One of my favorites to mix it with is MAC ‘Viva Glam V’! MATCH MADE IN LIPSTICK HEAVEN!

Florals, Pastels & Rosegold

Dress: Ted Baker (sold out) (love this) | Pumps: Rachel Roy (sold out) similar | Sunnies: Juicy Couture | Earrings: Nadri (sold out) similar | Bracelets: Seasonal Whispers (sold out) similar | Rings: Gifted | Lips: MAC Viva Glam Nicki 2 Lipstick & Lipglass (sold out) similar | Nails: China Glaze ” Sweet Hook” (OBSESSED!)

I love floral prints. They are so girly and sophisticated looking! This one by Ted Baker reminds me of a 50’s housewife, which I find to be super classy and feminine. I love this fit and flare style, plus it includes a petite bow belt to accentuate the waist. It really is the epitome of a spring/summer dress! Since it is still officially fall for exactly three more days, and it still feels like summer in Arizona with 90 degree temperatures, this dress is totally appropriate!

These royal blue Rachel Roy pumps weigh down the bright print a little too, so I think pairing them with a darker blue instead of another pastel or nude helps make the transition from the tail end of summer to the beginning of fall a bit smoother if you’re worried about it. But honestly, I don’t really even think about rules like, “No White After Labor Day” or “Only Florals in the Spring.” I just wear whatever I’m in the mood for and what the weather permits. I’m a firm believer than you can make anything work with the right accessories! After all, that is usually the deciding factor in “Who Wore It Best.” 😉

I played off of the rose gold accent on the belt and added my own to tie it all together and stuck with minimal make up to keep it fresh!

I have to profess my love for this nail polish too. It is the perfect light lavender milky purple. I like to say it’s the purple version of Mod About You by OPI, which is my favorite pink laquer! I think it matched perfectly with my Viva Glam Nicki 2 lipstick and lipglass as well. Nothing makes me happier than matching lipstick to nail polish, à la Betty Draper in Mad Men.

Wrap It With A Bow

Dress: Topshop (similar) | Shoes: Vince Camuto (similar) | Belt: Halogen (similar) Sunnies: Quay | Purse: Moyna |Bracelets: Nadri, Gifted |Earrings: Baublebar {Similar} | Lipstick: Revlon Color Burst Matte Balm in “Showy”

In my opinion, nothing beats a simple, bright pink dress. It’s versatile, like your LBD, but has so much more personality! I also love dresses with sleeves because sleeves are my fashion friend. Oh, and don’t mind my bruises. I tend to bruise easily, so sporting one somewhere on my body is basically inevitable ha!

This bow belt goes with so many things because of it’s understated simplicity. And you know I like my outfits girly so of course my closet is stocked with vast varieties of bow belts for this very purpose.

Lets talk about these sunglasses. They made by Quay which have fairly inexpensive yet still unique frames so they are easy to try out without breaking the bank!

Tribal Disco

IMG_1576 Top: Free People | Jeans: Current/Elliott (similar) | Bootie: Steve Madden | Necklace: John Wind (on sale!) | Bracelets: John Wind, Alex & Ani (& herehere)| Rings: Gifted, Ariella Collection (similar)

This is sadly the very last of my California trip pictures! No more pretty beach backdrops from now on. Boooooo.

We took these on the La Jolla Beach boardwalk steps away from where my husband, our friends and I stayed, The La Jolla Shores Hotel.

I paired this tribal inspired geometric top from Free People with my Current/Elliott Tahitian blue skinny jeans. I loved how they made the blue embroidery from my blouse pop! I rolled up the bottoms of my Current/Elliot’s to show off the Steve Madden booties. I love the natural color of them, and felt they were the perfect addition to my casual ensemble and didn’t steal the attention away from my colorful top & jeans.

This will also be the last of the purple hair. I recently had it done, it had been 3 months and was long over-due, and my poor sister had to spend about 7-8 hours getting rid of the purple and helping it get back to blonde! I’m loving being bright blonde again, and don’t know what I would do without my sister/hair-stylist/friend!
