Semi-Charmed Kinda Life

Talk about visual monochromatic overload! It’s a rarity to have the ability to adorn and surround yourself with an abundance of similar shades, so I’ll admit, I was reveling in it. But alas! My pink hair has now washed away to a dusty baby blush. And looking back at this all-over bright hue makes me reconsider letting it fade away completely. So funny story, the entire time Maddi and I were at the Art of Ice Cream Experience, I was laughing (internally of course, because who really “LOL’s” these days?) at how “extra” we were. For those that aren’t fluent in millennial speak, being “extra” means being outlandishly ostentatious, or, in layman’s terms, being completely “over the top!” I mean, really, who do we think we are? Actually, it was more me, I shouldn’t shift the blame here. I was the one that came equipped with a camera, stand, and several bags stuffed with changes of clothes, shoes and accessories. Luckily, we were the only ones there for a good portion of the art exhibit, and the male employees clearly didn’t seem to mind. I can only be my real, true “OTT” self with my sisters and close friends, and Maddi is one of them. I should mention, the whole purpose of this photoshoot was to show off how incredible her microblading skills are! This is the second time I’ve had them done in my life, and I’m so impressed at her attention to detail and artistic abilities. I love not having to worry about filling in my brows, one less step in my morning routine is a plus for me! Go check out more of her work at MadLuvv.com!

I went to the Art of Ice Cream Experience here in Scottsdale, Arizona, with my friend Maddi of MadLuvv.com. The entire museum is essentially an “Insta-worthy” photo-op, so we took full advantage! If you’re local and want to learn more about it, this article explains what it entails in thorough detail. In my opinion, it’s worth checking out before the ice cream-themed “pop up” art exhibit leaves! Especially for the free ice cream and shakes! Now onto the look: It’s definitely a kick ass, Khloe K inspired get-up, with the mix of thigh high boots and destroyed denim shorts, a touch of satin and hint of sparkle. And also, a nod to the Netflix series, GLOW, that I just binge watched yesterday! Have you seen it? I understand it’s mostly fiction, but I will say, I have a newfound respect for women’s wrestling!

Speaking of wrestling, I happen to find the background of the ice cream fighting ring particularly fitting, given my life’s chain of events, metaphorically speaking. Hopefully my metaphors don’t come off as cheesy as the ones uttered on The Bachelor and its spin-offs, but I’d like to address my personal battle(s) I’ve been struggling with the past year. Miscarriage and Infertility. They’re essentially four-letter words (well, technically they’re both 11-letter words, oddly enough, but you catch the drift) in society. No one wants to talk about it. Everyone wants to pretend like it doesn’t happen, that it’s not plaguing millions of women and men alike. But here’s the thing, it is. And it’s directly impacted the lives of me and my husband. Now, it all started out hunky dory, with me getting pregnant naturally after only a few months of trying back in March of 2017. I went to the doctor for my first check-up on a Monday, at around 7-8 weeks. We heard the heartbeat and all was well. But by Wednesday, I noticed spotting and then came down with a terrible case of the Norovirus later that night. We had plans to go to California the very next day, on Thursday, but I was so ill I couldn’t get out of bed, save for when I had to sprint to the toilet. I willed myself to feel better the next day, on Friday, so we made the drive to Newport, California. But I wasn’t 100% recovered, in fact, I threw up again on Saturday night, and it was then that I realized the spotting had become bleeding and I became anxious and called the doctor on-call. She assured me spotting could be a normal symptom but if I was concerned, I could make an appointment to get everything checked out. I did just that and asked when the earliest they could get me in was, which was the coming Tuesday. Going to California was part business, part pleasure, a working vacation if you will, because I was also there to take “baby announcement pictures” on the beach, which I would post that Sunday, on Mother’s Day. It was all working out so perfectly, maybe a little too perfectly. I had this nagging feeling that something was off, but I kept shoving it deep down so as not to freak myself out further. Honestly, it didn’t even occur to me that maybe I should hold out on announcing my pregnancy, because this was my first experience and no one warned me miscarriage had such a high chance of occurring during this time frame. I didn’t even think twice about the “12-Week Rule” since I wasn’t even aware of it. I went in to the doctor that Tuesday and was devastated to hear the news that there was no longer a viable heartbeat. I was told that since my body was starting the process naturally, to let it continue to do its thing, and to come back in three weeks to ensure everything had passed properly. Later that day and the next, I passed huge blood clots, and there was one in particular that I was positive was the baby. In that moment, I felt it, my first experience with a “Mother’s Intuition.” I just had a very strong impression that the baby would have been a boy. After what felt like three of the longest weeks of my life, I went back to the doctor, and he looked at my uterus through the ultrasound and saw that I still hadn’t passed the placenta! I was flabbergasted in the moment because I was so sure everything had come out, there’s no way there could be anything left with all the blood clots and the fact that the baby had passed. But my body just couldn’t seem to do it on its own. So my doctor then prescribed me Misoprostol, a pill that causes contractions resulting in spontaneous abortion. I’ll save you all the gory details, but in essence, what transpired was me hemorrhaging for the next 12 hours until I lost so much blood that I had to be rushed back into my doctor’s office for an emergency unmedicated D&C. The bleeding stopped almost immediately after he removed the placenta, but the pain was excruciating. My mom and husband were there with me at the time, and I was squeezing my mom’s hand and she was looking at me with a look of pity, and I was gazing back, partly in awe, like, “How have you had EIGHT children?” and partly in fear for my future self when I would have to push a child out. Well, it’s been exactly a year to the day since I went to the doctor and was told there wasn’t a heartbeat. And I’m still not pregnant. I’m not worried now of how much it will hurt when I have to push a baby out, I’m worried if I’ll ever have the chance. Since October, I’ve seen a several family doctors, three different reproductive endocrinologists, chiropractors, an herbalist and even an acupuncturist to figure out what is wrong. We did our first round of IUI in March, and it failed. Our next step was IVF, but we just found out the program we qualified for has pushed the start date from mid-May to mid-June. It may not sound like a big deal to you, but for me? I was crushed knowing I’d have to wait yet another month to start my first round of IVF. It’s no coincidence fertility specialists use the term “round” for each session of IUI or IVF. It’s an epic battle with your body to try do something that it should be able to do so effortlessly, reproduce. I truly never thought this would be my trial, but I’ve come to terms with the fact that it is. But all I can do at this point is wait. All I can do is pick myself back up every time I fall and fight another round.

Valentine’s Day is just a few days away! What are you doing to celebrate? My husband, Todd, and I celebrated early since it falls on a Wednesday this year, and he’ll be working late that night. Todd had the most gorgeous box of roses delivered to me from Venus et Fleur! There’s 49 light pink roses in a white square box with gold writing and the best part? They last for an entire year! Their perfume is so potent too, I opened them up in my room and you can smell them throughout our entire home! And you can’t have roses without chocolate right? Godiva gifted me a few boxes of their chocolates, which I could not be more ecstatic about. If you know me, you know I love chocolate, especially dark. Godiva is one of my favorite brands too. Their chocolate is so decadent and rich, just the way it should be! My dogs clearly knew I was partaking in something worth begging for, but unfortunately for them, they can’t have any since it makes them sick. And fortunately for me, there’s no sharing when it comes to my chocolate anyway. For his present, I rented a bright yellow Lamborghini Gallardo for the day and we cruised all around town in that bad boy. We went to lunch in downtown Gilbert at Even Stevens (so good!) and dropped off lunch to my dad who just had surgery on his eye and while we were there gave my three little nephews a ride around the block in it. They were going absolutely nuts over that car, it was hilarious to watch. Boys and their toys! Then we grabbed a treat from Andy’s Frozen Yogurt and went home to get ready for our date night! We went for a fancy dinner at Mastro’s City Hall, which was divine. We had 30 minutes to kill before our movie started afterward so we dashed across the street and popped into Nordstrom to do a little window shopping. It was such a fun-filled day. We went all out and did things we’ve never done before, because why not? This is the year of “Why Not?” for me. I’m going to do things I’ve always wanted to do because I realize now more than ever, there’s no time like the present.

Hey guys! Remember me? It’s been a while, but I have a lot to talk about today, so let’s get right into it! First of all, this post was inspired by my girl, Maddie Thompson, of MadluvvBrows! If you don’t follow her on Insta, girl you better get on that because she is the definition of a GIRL BOSS! We worked together almost four years ago on these posts here & here! She has grown her business exponentially since then, and I’m so proud to know her. She’s hilarious and extremely talented, plus she just moved back to Arizona, yee haw! I had my brows microbladed a few years back, but haven’t had any touch-ups since so they had basically faded away except for a few tiny spots, and Maddie brought them back to life! It’s insane how much they can lift and shape your face when they’re colored and shaped just so! Check out her website, madluvv.com!

THIS JACKET! This jacket, this jacket, this jacket. I was searching high and low for an oversized denim jacket and stumbled upon this beauty. It was love at first sight. I adored the vintage vibe but with an updated girly twist! I mean, how can you say no to pink fleece lining? And that perfect juxtaposition of baby pinks with light blues? Yaaaas honey. I honestly had butterflies waiting for it to arrive on my doorstep. That’s how you know it’s real, true, everlasting love. This bodysuit is INCREDIBLE! It literally sucks you in in all the right places & makes you look like you practice ballet on the regular, gimme that ballerina body! Adding this belt is one of my favorite ways to amp up any outfit, taking it from basic to bangin’. I seriously get compliments every time I wear it! My husnand gifted me the new Apple Watch for my birthday, and I basically can’t live without it now. It’s such a game changer for workouts and tracking daily physical activity, plus it looks super cute with the rose gold case and pink sand band!

Did you notice, both of my Yorkies made a debut in this post! Gatsby is the bigger one, he’s about 12 pounds and two years old! I don’t think he’s been featured here yet because, ahem, I have been lacking in posting. And Lola is the smaller one, she’s around six pounds but will be five in May! I can’t believe I’ve had her almost five years! I am obsessed with my dogs, they’re like my children right now, helping me fill the void of being baby hungry. Where my fellow dog moms at?

Well well well, look who decided to show up! Me! I’m referring to myself in the third person. And yes, it’s almost been two whole years since my last blog post, so to sum it up really quickly let’s just say a LOT has happened since January 30, 2016! But I saw this draft just sitting there, pictures all taken, edited, just waiting for some copy to be added to its lonely little self. So, I obliged because I have some free time now… which is another story for another time! Onto the outfit: Clearly most of these items above are sold out since it’s been so long since I took these photos in Sedona! Don’t you fret, though, because I did a little digging and found similar styles, if not nearly exact! So in the words of Maui from Moana, You’re Welcome!
